Making of a story…

…and the story unfolds of an everlasting afternoon with Mr. Andrew Wright, a story teller and a poet.
'Life is a story', he says, every incident is a part of the tapestry being weaved. The hazy, watery eyes tired by life’s sojourn is a window to things we have no inkling of . Through that haziness he sees what we miss. Those eyes take note of every minute detail and in his quiet, unassuming voice, he gently proclaims, ‘ Look at the two signboards, they are alphabets no doubt but do you notice the difference in the font? There is a story! Notice the signboard of Mac Donald’s and Roll Royce, the golden arch that lures and the royal R that’s class. So, there is another story. Every act is a loom that is projection of one’s cultural, ethical, and social background besides giving vent to one’s desires, hopes and dreams. Look around and you’ll see the distinct story. My shoelace for instance is a story! Its' worn out shreds have memories and the fact that I dare to wear it speaks of my character and back ground. No men in this part of the world would dare wear a shoe with shredded lace and that is another story.'

He’s scattered in the midst of papers filled with sketches that capture incidents to be portrayed in his stories, woven and intertwined as episodes of life’s frozen moments. He’s getting ready for another session on story telling and in that attempt, he tells me his story
It’s a story of a man who sees the world in enactment that in turn shape and create his saga some of which is stark and distinct, some soft and unnoticed. It’s a story of a storyteller who in the midst of ‘theories of Language Arts’ speaks poetry, an expression far more gentle and in many ways unheard for he remarks, ‘not many attended my poetry session today’, maintaining the glowing smile which is a sign of hope. Its hope that the medium of story telling will continue to weave tapestries of our life to be heard, appreciated and adopted as one of the instructional theory in the teaching arena. Let story telling help generate the love of a language that'll be OUR VOICE, remarkable and eloquent!
